Many people believe that they cannot get enough protein from plant based foods. I personally believe this to be a total myth! Furthermore, in opposition to this propaganda, I like to think that I am living proof of its fallacy. I have muscle, I am not by any means emaciating, I feel strong, and I have lot’s of energy. And, for ten years, I have lived or should I say thrived, on plants:)
Plant based proteins sources (namely the ones in the list below), are quite easy to digest (so your body actually can assimilate more of the protein from these sources, more efficiently), they are also alkaline (which is not only great for weight-loss, but also for over-all health and ph balance), they are also very rich in vitamins / nutrients, trace minerals, and omega 3 fatty acids:)
I believe in picking foods that are not only going to provide you with protein or whatever else you’re after, but also, overall enhanced health. Why not give your body the BEST!? You Deserve it!
Here are my go-to’s for Vegan protein, energy, and overall wellbeing:)
1. Sprouts - A true superfood! AND, 55% of their calories come from protein:) Try Sunflower, broccoli, pea shoots, etc.
2. Green Leafy Vegetables - two large bunches of greens will supply you with 14-20 grams of protein! Juice them, use them in salads, and add them to smoothies! Try Kale, Spinach, collard greens, dandelion, etc.
3. Plant based Protein Powder - Personally, I love the Vega line of products.
4. Lentils and Quinoa - sprouted is always best, but cooked is cool too:) There are amazing and sustaining vegan protein options!
5. Chia seeds - rich in both protein and omega 3, plus, these little gems also help us stay hydrated!
6. Hemp seeds - Contain all the essential amino acids, all 21! They are amazing on salads! I almost can’t imagine salad without them in fact?!
7. Green Algaes - like Spirulina, Chlorella, E3Live. Did you know that Spirulina is 60% protein, just so you know, that’s more than beef! These algaes also super for your brain and, overall body detoxification
8. Bee Pollen - not totally vegan, bee pollen does come from bees, but I make an exception here as there are so many amazing things for you in bee pollen; for example, this stuff is loaded with Bee-vitamins (haha), so its great for stress support!
9. Almonds and Almond butter, the food I crave the most! I think my body is after the protein! Celery sticks with almond butter, yum:)
10. Tempeh, much easier to digest than tofu. Just go easy with this one, as soy can disrupt hormonal balance in some people. Also, buy organic when it comes to all soy products, 95% of North America’s Soy crop has been genetically modified....eeek....creepy!
Add these to your shopping list, and enjoy the ride:)
