Many studies are now showing that the 'nitrate' content in beets has the potential to substantially increase oxygen flow during exercise (this = improved brain, heart, and muscle-efficiency!).
Getting enough oxygen to your organs, muscles, and most certainly your brain, during Bikram Yoga, is SO important to your performance, strength, and energy.
Yogis, befriend the BEET!!!!
For an awesome pre-workout / yoga cocktail, juice some beets, or, add a few beets to your smoothie!
(To balance the sugar in the beets, I suggest you add some greens to your concoction; this will provide a 'grounding' effect).
Here's a recipe to get you started..
Blended Beet Cocktail:
1 medium beet, steamed, roasted, or raw (if you don’t have a high-speed blender, use steamed or roasted beets)
1 cup fresh or frozen mixed berries
1/2 cup fresh orange, sectioned
3/4 cup almond milk & 1 tbsp hempseed
A few big handfuls of spinach :)
YUM!
